picked up a pair of clowns at the LFS, they werent labeled. They are black, with white bars (neno style), very yellow face and fins.

Any ideas? I will try to get pics

they kinda sound like black false percs, but i agree w/ GSMguy..pics are the best way to ID

Are they young? Yellow face and fins are how my A Polymnus(saddleback) came. They have lost some of the intense yellow since they have grown up, but as everyone else says, pics are best.

they are young, 2 1/2 bars, the last one at the tail fin doesnt quite go all the way down. The 2nd bar is slightly diagonal

Black A. polymnus(saddleback clowns). Commonly sold as Black Perculas. Like stated above there are no Black Perculas, there are Black Ocellaris.

Heres some pictures of the saddleback clowns

In the wild Saddlebacks are mostly in carpets, but the black variant is more commonly found in long tentacle anemones from my reading.

I bought some saddlebacks awhile ago and they store and wholesaler had them listed as black perculas. If you like what they look like it really doesn't matter what they are called....right? Mine are getting ready to spawn and from what I hear they are one of the hardest to do so in the home aquariuam.

Enjoy

It is nice to know what you have for their sake, and the other inhabitants of the tank. Selling them as percs is misleading, as saddlebacks grow quite a bit bigger, are more agressive, and host naturally in different anemones...so it depends on what level of knowledge you wish. Would you take home a yellow lab and call it a golden retriever?

As in my avatar, this black saddleback hosted in an Atlantic Carpet anemone. BTW. Atlantic Carpets are "non-hosts" as there are no clownfishes in the Atlantic Ocean.
