I have this algae growing in my tank, what type of algae is it?? It's fern feathery like in blue. I've checked bryopsis and fern caulerpa, but I don't think it's either one.

Michael,

i'm pretty sure that is bryopsis. If you can locate a copy of Sprung's Algae-A Problem Solvers Guide, it looks very much liek the shot in the upper right hand side of page 47. He even mentions to notice the blue hue:).

It's still going. Grabbed two heaping handfuls after the vacation. Got the pump for my skimmer (and have noticed the rabbitfish and tank eating it now that the razor caulerpa is gone), so it should be pahsing out soon. I finally got my alk back up over 8 again, too. Now, I just have to keep it there... Higher alks have been reputed as 'cures' for some algae outbreaks. nutrient is the main issue, though. I've got some settled out crap in my sump that needs to be siphoned out and the spnge needs to be cleaned. All of that (in conjucntion with the RAND corporation-sorry for the Simpsons quote;)) should have it easing it's way out over the next few weeks:).

It'll turn into the plague... I didn't have a spot of algae (aside from the razor caulerpa) 10 weeks ago, then it hit hard...

Gary,

I ripped them ALL out tonight and washed it with my tank water and I put the algae in the freezer to kill and dump out the water I used to wash'em with. I hope that's the last of'em. I scrape the rocks pretty good too before returning it back into my system.
