alright guys I really am getting close to getting this thing ready for water....i know again i owe you guys tons of pics and i have been taking them...it will be like Christmas so you'll just wait and see.

I need to know what type of sand and where to buy it the cheapest. I want white white white sand that reflect really good. I think i want sugar size but i have never used it before. Any drawback?

what size, anyone have experiance with sugar grain size sand? what sand did you use Tom i like your look. BTW maybe we can get together soon so you can help me build my rock.

hey shane, I am going to be buying sand too. i decided to go with one step coarser than the sugar fine. I think its .5 - 1.5 size. if you decide to go that route and it would be cheaper to buy in bulk lets do it. let me know.

where were you thinking of buying it from. That sounds good to me. I just want to make sure it is white sand like sugar color. I need 180-200 lbs. How much you think it will be?

i need a bit over a hundred pounds probably. I haven't decided on where to buy, but I would like to stay local if possible to save on shipping. sounds like 6th ave might work. we could see what they got at jofish on friday as well?

The last time I got sand it was less than a buck a lb

How deep of a sand bed are you thinking about? I think 1" deep is more than you need, go any deeper then that and you will have trouble down the road.

good call Tom....so my tank is 175 bow...is it 1lb of sand per gallon to get one inch? but i do want to have some jaw fish, they need at least an inch right?

! inch is fine for all fishes Shane. also when you do your rockwork, make sure it is open so that you can clean as much of the sand as possible on a regular basis. Save of the dry sands so that you can replace some of the older sand latter. I replace 1/4 of my sands every 6 months.

I just bought seaflor special grade sand which is around 1-2mm in size and I love the looks of it. I got tired of having to clean off my corals and rocks when I had the .5-1mm sand.

where did you buy it from and is it white like sugar? how much was it a Lb or bag. I want the sand to really reflecct the light.

The problem with people having their sand flying around is the way they direct the powerhead. Most people hang the power heads on the back wall facing the front of the tank and at 45 degree angle of each other and that create a sand storm in the front middle of the tank. I have mine mounted end to end(or the side of the tank one on the inside one on the outside moving the water in a circle patern on the top of the water surface) this gives the tank a better overall flow in mass but doesn't blow the sand all over the place.

I bought it at aquatic world in Napa. I have an unopened 10 pound bag of Bahama ooh lite sand which is sugar size, that you can have for free.

Stripe01 thanks! are you going to the meeting on friday? If you are i can get it from you then....do you want some cheto?

Hey shane, your links aren't working but I will probably end up going up to 6th ave sometime and getting a few bags. I'd be curious to see what you get from there ...
