looking to add a wrasse with my pair of clowns and a yellow coris. I know the basic rule is to not get anything similar in color or shape but other than that is there anything else I should know?

I ask because I believe the coris harassed my pink velvet into jumping and ultimately his death.

i never had a problem with my yellow coris when introducing new wrasses and i have added plenty he just minds his own buissenes

Ah. Sorry to assume that you weren't using any netting. That sounds like a determined jumper! What species was it? I'm not familiar with a "Pink Velvet Wrasse". Was it a Red Velvet (Cirrhilabrus rubrisquamis) or Pink Margin (Cirrhilabrus rubrimarginatus)?

Whats up fellow michigan reefer!!

Most of the reef safe wrasses i've had went along together no problem. Like you said though I tried to get species that were different in color though. Right know I have a yellow coris with a melunarus wrasse.

I have a yellow and red coris wrasse and they both swim with together. Very cool to watch a bright yellow and a bright red fish swimming side by side.

the yellow coris is an established fish and I mean well established. I will be adding whatever fish to the mix.

I have three wrasse a yellow, sea grass and a pylei and they all get along. I hope to add a fourth soon maybe a scott's fairy. Anyway to answer your question I think anything not close in color as you mentioned. Just add it at night so it is not harassed right away and if you know where your yellow sleeps, put the new one in at the opposite end. Good Luck.
