What was the best investment you ever made for your reef tank?

Hard to pick:

1. Skimmer upgrade. Even my wife noticed the positive change.
2. Auto Top Up. I use an Osmolator, has made life much easier.
3. RC Membership/books. The better educated I am, IMO, the better I can know how to care for my wet pets :)

RO/DI here also. Second would be switching to Salifert test kits for alk and calcium. Next on the list (hopefully) will be an auto-top-off system.

TRA (The Reef Aquarium ) vol 1 by Delbeek and Sprung.

Without it I wouldn't have stayed in the hobby long, and would have killed a lot of innocent animals before giving up.

RO/DI..
and this post inspired me to become a RC member.. paypal on its way!!! cant imagine getting into this hobby without RC now :D

1) RO/DI - Prior to RO/DI I could actually "see" my corals/fish whining when I did topoffs and water changes with tap

2) Refractometer - The results aren't even close when comparing the results from my old POS to the refractometer

3) Increasing my flow from just a Mag 9.5 from my sump return to 4 MJ 1200's with a Wavemaster Pro wavemaker - When I first turn the wavemaker on I had so much crap flaoting throughout my tank I almost cried. Water conditions and clarity are so improved it's unimaginable.

4) Protein skimmer - I list this as #4 only because I first started off in this hobby using one so I wouldn't know what my water conditions would be like without it. But I pulled junk out of my water so much I know it's indispensable.

5) RC - don't have a membership yet but I will in the near future. Just need to replenish my Paypal account after the numberous purchases I've made with corals/fish/etc! Don't know what added benefits the upgraded membership will give me but I've extrapolated so much info from here that it's a minute price to pay in return.

1)Certainly my new 6 stage ro/di unit,
2)Ear plugs so I don't hear how much time I'm spending on the tank.
3)QUALITY LR
4)earplugs
5)my skimmer
6) oh yeah and ear plugs :-)

A turkey baster that cost Ã"šÃ‚£3.99 and a pair of long grabbers/tongs for Ã"šÃ‚£9.99 - great for manipulating things in the depths of the tank.

Definitely the RO unit. Going with a 75 gal tank as opposed to a smaller tank (wish I even went larger). You're right Colettem, I am lost without my turkey baster.

I don't know that I have a favorite investment; lot's of good ones though:

Deltec Skimmer
Reef Ready tank
AWI RO/DI
Refractometer
