What was your 1st ever fish

My first were a pair of bicinctus clowns followed quickly by a a yellow watchman goby. I still have my goby a couple of years later.

First fish: neon
First saltwater fish: algae blenny (yeah, I'm strange)

First saltwater fish to die: algae blenny (oops)

My first saltwater fish was really bought in fresh water, it was a figure 8 puffer. My tank gradually evolved into a salt tank but the first fish I bought in saltwater was this blue devil. It was part of the first batch of salt water fish available in NYC in 1971.
He is here over his nest of eggs in that barnacle shell.

My first fish(s) and very large mistake were 4 damsels. Not only did I buy 4 territorial fish I put them in a 10 gallon all at the same time. Yes I was very new! I have since learned from my mistake and have not lost any fish since. I also donated all still living damsels back to my lfs.

Clowns are always good starter fish. Or Chromis.

Might want to steer clear of Damsels as they grow bigger and when you add more fish you will regret getting them just because there cheap. They become bullies even to larger tangs and such.
