clownfish pairs usually have the female as the larger of the two fishes... but what will happen if you have 2 spawning pairs and you take a female from one pair and a male from another and put them in the same tank... the only catch is, the male is larger than the female in this new pairing... would they still form a pair bond even though the male is larger...?

the male can't get smaller and the female can't change back to a male...
 
I dont know the answer either, but I would fear for the little female. Species might come into play as some are more aggressive than others.

Interesting scenario to say the least!

haha... no... i'm setting up a breeding system for clownfishes right now and i just thought about it...
