what would you do? overflow question...

I have dual 1" overflows and a mag 18 return pump. lots of turns in the plumbing due to uv sterilizer etc... I have ordered the parts to do a herbie style overflow but now I am scared about the flow. I capped off one of the stand pipes and watched it for 5 minutes or so and it handled that amount of flow that is actually making it that far without going into suction.

the real question is, would you trust the 5 min experiment? supposedly, this pump will push 1100gph at 5' (about where I am) and a 1" pipe isn't supposed to flow that much...

I don't really want to go durso as I would like to eliminate all sound. the tank is a 110 with a 20 gal sump

none at all, that was the unspoken third option, a smaller pump to reduce the flow since that seems excessive (especially since my sump is kind of small relative to the size of the dt) something about (maybe being a man???) having to spend extra money on a smaller pump is not very appealing!! I could also tee off of the return with a line going back into the sump so I could throttle back the mag 18. thoughts?

Is it the size of the wave or the motion in the ocean? Innuendos abound. I'd just get a smaller pump and have a nice, quiet Herbie.
