My kids and I want a English bulldog puppy but my wife says we have too many animals ie, 2 cats, BC29, and two lizards. In order to compromise with my wife a get a dog I have too get rid of my BC29. And yes, the cats and lizards are gone too. Tough decision! What would you choose???

I'd just have the fish tank and dog.. remember you're married you need to counter-compromise.

Agree....

I did counter-compromise cause the cats and lizards are my wifes. So everything goes before we can get the dog.

I would get the dog then put an add on craigslist or local paper to sell the "entire" BC29 for "the same amount" that you have invested in it.

The way I see it nobody will ever buy it for what you have invested. And you can say "I'm trying to sell it, but people are expecting me to give it away" :D. I did something similar with my motorcycle couple years ago and I still have it today LOL.

Your wife sounds like my husband (that I've seperated from). In marriage compromise is essential. If your wife is helping to take care of your tank, cats and lizards then I can see why she would say that. If it were me I'd keep the tank. Dogs are expensive to board or stay in hotel (added fees) when you go on vacation, plus training, feeding, walking, etc.

In my marriage I take care of my 90g, QTs, cat and dog. When I had surgery my husband wouldn't even medicate my QT that a new sick clown was in, or feed it, or top off water. Needless to say he was dead by the time I was released from the hospital (not what you want to come home to after having a huge tumor removed!) So in my situation I'd throw up the middle finger to that ultimatum.

Why choose??? There's no such thing as too many pets as long as they're all kept clean (nothing worse than stinky pets!).

We have a lizard, 2 gerbils, a cat, a dog, a 55gal planted FW tank and we've just started a 90gal reef.

The gerbils are our daughter's and she takes care of them. The cat is my husband's and he takes care of it. The dog and the FW tank are mine. The reef we're co-doing, though ultimately once the novelty wears off it'll be my baby too.

Just establish the "chores" list upfront, then hold up your end of the deal every single day (yes, I walk the dog myself every day, even if it's raining - hey, that was the deal).

And enjoy having a family zoo!

We have a 2 mastiffs, 2 cats, 2 snakes, a bearded dragon, a 55 gal tank, a 10 gal cage of just crickets, i also had 2 gerbils, hamster, and a guinie pig. O_o so far i think i have everyone beat. there is always room for more :) or at least a bigger tank. im working on a 275 upgrade.

What would I do?

Keep the pets you have and don't get the dog if those are the conditions.

Pets are not disposable when you feel like getting a different one.

+1 on that! What happens when you don't want the dog anymore???

+1 to Jenjen

Animals should not be fashion accessories that you "swap" around. If you both wanted another child would you give one away? I am recommending against getting a dog because I would be afraid that you would trade it for something later on - hmmm Motorcycle or Dog, 300 gal tank or dog. If you, the wife, and the kids only have enough time to care for what you have then you should not give away your pets because they are inconvenient. How about figuring some way to free up some time so you can add to your household rather than swapping? It sounds to me like your wife is concerned about the time that would be spent on another pet. Work with this issue rather than compromising with living creatures. JMHO

Do you agree a dog will be too much? Because IMO, adding a dog isn't exactly going to give you a zoo.

I know my house was a lot cleaner and quiet before I got my little shih tzu. I had a lot more free time too. So yes, in a house with kids and other pets adding a dog can be too much.

where would the cats and lizards go? you cant just give up pets you have inorder to get others. you have a responsibility to take care of them. if they are going to a good home, yeah, get the puppy and keep the tank.
