I have a 450 gallon reef tank and I am thinking about giving the tunzes a try. I want a ton of sps. What would you do? the demmensions are 96*36*30tall. I dont know much about tunzes and what they offer so if you could explain why you would do what you would do that would be great.

First, we need to know if your tank is BB, SSB and DSB? Is your tank SPS dominate or mix reef?

For that tank size you will need at least 2 tunze 6205. If you have room for wavebox that would be another good addition.

Wavebox will generate rocking motion and keep the detritus in the water column. Tunze stream provide directional flow and random flow to your reef.

Tunze wavebox and tunze stream are good combo. Tunze wavebox help lifting the detritus and the stream help push detritus around and into the overflow box...

With the stream pump you will need an 7095 or 7096 (multi controller)

I agree with Steve's suggestion but for that size tank the wavebox would need an extension.

tank has about 3'' sand bed aragonite. I am planning an sps dominant tank. I might be able to get 4 6201's Do you think that will be enough? How are they compared to the vortecs?

For a SPS dominant tank that size I think they would be a great choice. The 6101/6205s have a much stronger flow and can move water further than the vortecs. The 6101/6105 is a more comparible to the Vortec, though the Stream again moves water further as the flow pattern is more compact. Plus I am a big fan of the ability to point them around the tank, especially the new Stream 2's

4 6201 is perfect . Vortec is comparable with 6101....

These are the ones that I might get. Are there a newer model of this pump. Is this a good pump and is there any thing that I should know about it before I trade my vortecs for them?

The 6205 replaced the 6201 recently and the 6201 replaced the 6200 about 1.5 - 2 years ago.

There is a guy name Nuuze (Mike) he was in the same situation but he is really happy now after he took out 4 vortec 4th Gen and wireless controller....
