What would you like?

tank o tang

Thread Lurker
What would you like:

to get out of the club?
do at club meetings?
to have club meetings?
special activities?
ideas for the club think tank?
etc.?

Places you would like to inquire for club discounts?

online?
local?

Can anybody think of a place that could benefit from a club donated and maintained tank? By beneficial I mean somewhere for children, elderly home, etc.. Anybody else wanting to do something like this I am more than willing to help and donate.

i say for club discounts: greenwich aquaria
a club donated and maintained tank: i would say the osborn but i think they might already have one

After the last meeting there were several people who wanted to know how to setup a controller. We could take a factory defaulted controller, Reef Keeper, Apex, etc. and go through the basic steps of setting it up. Show the weakness and strengths of using this type of control. Same with Auto-top off and Auto water changes.

Club discounts: I agree with Greenwich Aquaria, HOF.

American Marine has its headquarters in Ridgefield they could demonstrate there latest equipment, controllers, monitors, etc. We could beta test their equipment.

Just a couple ideas.

Bob

Those are some good ideas. I second them all (Im all for the controller idea)!

What Id like to get out of the club:
to meet as many locals in the hobby, and maybe do some sort of a tank tour to visit each others tanks. Id like to see a photo gallery of everyones tanks too (maybe we could take the shots when we visit each tank etc? I know I dont ahve a good camera -- or at least all the shots I take of my tank suck -- would help if someone could volunteer their skills.

I love the idea Bob said about American Marine -- I had no idea they were local.

I would like to do a seasonal frag swap posted well in advance that we could each prepare for.

I also like the idea we discussed a couple months ago about making our own food

Special activities could be to get a behind the scenes tour at a few aquariums -- starting with Maritime in norwalk. I also like the one l.i. sound mentioned a ways back about doing a trip along the sound for collecting etc. We are too small to get speakers, but maybe we should at least check into what that entails-- perhaps we could swing it?

Club discounts; bulk reef, drs foster, reef cleaners etc.

It doesnt matter to me where we host meetings; but I am more than willing to host them at my house until we make a decision, but perhaps mixing it up in differnet towns may be a good idea to attract more people.

There are also several VERY nice tanks around Fairfield county -- including a few TOTM winners. I dont think they are members of any club, but perhaps we could ask to go visit their tanks and see their set-ups first-hand -- that would be cool.

Ill try to think of a few more.

Seth has some great ideas.

I like the seasonal frag swap planned well ahead. Maybe one for me the wife won't veto :)

Club discounts - bulk reef, reefcleaners, uniquecorals.com (Manhatten Aquarium), Greenwich Aquaria, NYAquatic.com

Donated - I think Stepping Stones Children's museum has a tank donated by Norwalk Aquarium (which is now closed) so maybe convert/replace with salt. Kids love Nemo and Dory!

I can get us all in for a behind the scene tour at Atlantis in Riverhead LI. Joe's reef tank there is something to behold.
20,000 gallon reef tank. Biggest in the US, I believe.

LOT's of great ideas here. I'm a member of several fish clubs, and I've got to say the thing I have enjoyed the MOST about this club is the lack of formal agendas, and lack off formal meeting structure. Right now it's really just reef keepers getting together and talking reef tanks. I love that!

Granted, going to great places for meetings is cool. And having meaningful/interesting presentations during meetings is cool too. But what I'd like to suggest - for consideration here - is that we try something new...

Maybe we could use this forum as our "club business" area - as the place were we discuss club business - next meeting locations, presentations, and other club planning. If we did that, it would allow us to leave meetings as they are now... reef keepers talking about reef tanks.

Because THAT'S what I want most out of a club - to not bore me to tears with excessive club business - when we are getting together to have FUN.

My two cents. :)

Oh yeah, left out one thing...

I want those fun meetings to be conveniently located! That's why I'm on this forum and not the CTARS forum.
