what would you guys pay for a pretty big derasa? it maybe 8-10 inches, im looking at buying one and was wondering what it might be worth?? thanks

I was wondering myself. I just got a derasa thats about 4 inches from Petco. I know, deathco, I ever buy anything from them, but this was in a tank and was still responsive to a hand waving over it so I figured Id buy it and give it a good home, because it was only a matter of time before they killed it. Oh yeah, it was 50 bucks and listed simply as "Gold Clam".

hey thats pretty good for Petco, at least they actually new it was a clam and possibly weren't colour blind :D

as for price, it's tough to say and what it really comes down to is how much you're willing to pay. i just quickly looked online and saw some 2 1/4" - 3 1/2" derasas for $140 ( way to high IMO ), then on other sites only $55 for the same size.

if you think the asking price is to high, buy a smaller one and just wait. derasa grow pretty darn fast and personally i like to watch their progress.

oh yeah, and post some pictures if / when you get him.

at 18 years old the clam is probably putting minimal energy into growth and more into reproductivity. So i'd GUESS that it would not be growing at the same pace as say a small deresa.

btw - i was recently at my LFS and they were offering 2 deresas for $30 (they were about 3" or so). It was like an annual sale so I don't think these were normal prices. 2" gold maximas were going for $30 and 2" turquoise ones were going for $45.

After macna - maybe we'll have more retailers up selling and I could get more of a sense on prices. With the economy and all - even the sellers are feeling the pinch.

+1

Id say in my area they go for about $80-$100.00, but it also depends greatly on the color and pattern. ONe that size that has a rare color pattern in my area is going for $250.00. I think that is too high and so do most people since it's been at the LFS for about 2 months now.

Ive seen large derasa's going for 300 or 400 hundo before. Not too mention that they are much more hard to get adjusted than ones 3-4 inches in size. Good luck let us know how it goes.

A 10 inches Derasa got to be at least 6-8 years in somebody's tank, under very good condition. I certainly would not part with him for less than 500. However, if I am force to sell because of one reason or another than cetainly it can be cheaper or much cheaper. I tend to only keep clams that I really like, not the usual run of the mill clams. If you can get one for less than 250 you should consider yourself lucky IMO.

I would pay $150 at the most for a 9-10 inch derasa with regular colors. I got my 4 incher for $40 at my LFS. There is an online store (I can't remember the name) that is selling show size derasas for about $150.
