what wrasses eat flatworms?

bumping this because my FWE treatment didn't work.

I have a couple cleaner shrimp and would prefer they not be eaten by a wrasse, so I'm leaning towards the yellow coris wrasse, but which has the higher likelihood of eating those things?

If the flatworms are multiplying fairly quickly, wouldn't that suggest excess nutrients as well?

Canary wrasses can also take out inverts when they are full grown big guys!

Melanarus would be a better bet. I also don't think it would go after your shrimp, as they're already established in the tank. But, it's still a risk, depends on the fish.

I have heard that both large Melanurus wrasses and Canary wrasses can both go after shrimp and inverts. A search will find that. I didn't have a problem with my melanurus, but she was only about 4" long maybe...still kinda small. She was great for flatworms.

my melanurus took care of the flatworms in my tank and i had more than a couple! He eats whatever i put in the tank and still wanders around looking for things to snack on. He has a great personality; doesn't bother anybody, but also won't take crap from my coral beauty. And he's beautiful!

+1

I have seen the yellow coris eat them. I have the lemon meringue version now and no flatworms, knock wood!

I've had two sixlines. First one died of starvation I believe because he never did take a liking to any prepared foods. He nuked my flatworm and pod populations.

Current one eats flatworms as well but also eats most of the prepared foods I provide the tank.

I feed 3-5x a day and he is a great little fish. I prefer all my fish to be tiny tiny (not only because I have a smaller tank) and he has no aggression issues...granted he was also the last fish added.

how is the melanurus wrasse with pods? my concern is again for the green mandarin as I want her to have enough food. that wrasse is a beauty tho! I had eliminated the 6-line from my list because of the accounts of them bullying the mandarins as well as eating all their food

If your mandarin will eat frozen brine or mysis, then I say you're fine. If not, then you should have a pretty good sized fuge that is really full of pods. The melanarus hunts all day, and doesn't cruise around at the slow speeds your mandarin does. It'll really put a dent in your pod population for sure.

My general advice is this. There are not fish that are anything close to a sure bet for FW. So find a fish you like that might eat FW. If it doesn't, at least you have a fish you like. If it does, bonus.
