What wrong with my Xenia?

I have few pulsing Xenias in my tank. Last night went I came home one of them looked very, very distressed. They do close up from time to time but this one looks pretty bad.

The do fade sometimes and just melt, but then could come back.

I just cant keep them in one of my reef tanks but then in a nano it's fine. And the water is high no3!. I think the like dirty water.

Just give up with these guys IMO it's pot luck if the grow at all. But then some have them like weeds!.

High Alkalinity will inevitably melt them like that. Keep it down and your pH in check and it should do well.

Phosphates were 2.0 ppm!!!

I did a water change and adding Phos-zorb to the filter to stay on top of it.

I don' think it would have been phosphates, xenia feed off of them.
