What's Going On With My Sand?

Finished a diatom bloom a few weeks ago, now I see this discoloration against the glass on the sand around by tank. The top of the sand looks good though. Any ideas what I'm lookin at here and what to do to solve it? I've been stirring the sand with water changes, but eventually it keeps coming back. Thx

and...

BTW, the second pic wasn't taken very well, the mid to high part of the sand isn't discolored, it just looks that way from the shot. Its only the darker lower areas that are discolored.

There is light reflection off the glass that causes algae to grow on the front of the glass viewing panel just below the sand. It isn't growing anywhere under the sand except at the viewing panel where reflected light hits the sand from the side.

This is normal

anaerobic bacteria lives within your sand. it colonizes, eats, poops, and all that good stuff. It can leave a footprint behind. what your seeing is life in your sandbed. and some algae.
