What's happening to my plate coral

I have had a long tentacle plate coral for 8 months. With regular feeding and good water quality, it has grown nicely. Over the last week, it's tentacles got shorter and paler. 2 days ago, a wedge of brown developed on one part of the flesh (Normally a bright green). Now this brown has spread around the whole plate.

Is this disease and is my plate coral doomed?
Or is this some natural activity like splitting?

It's definitely not algae. What I didn't make clear in my post is that the brown wedge is the flesh of the coral. It went from green to tannish brown, lost organization, and not just clings to skeleton.

The brown stuff could be brown jelly disease. Unfortunately, heliofungia do not have a good track record in captivity.
