What's in your sump?

So I understand this correctly- There's nothing you have to do to the bio block? Just set it and forget it, basically?

that is the way I understand this works, like rubble better, I do not have any but when I set up a new tank, or redo my aquascape, I am thinking of putting some in the sump.

I have one on my 40b bare bottom sump. I have no rock in the tank and almost no rock in the sump just the block. Like Roger no N03 and no P04. I have 5-6 fish in it and full of sps. The block is my rock. This has been going on for over a year and I think the blocks are the best thing since sliced bread. In my new 300g system I will have 4 so the rock I do use in the system will be for looks and really not needed

Any chance someone can share a picture of the bio block? I have some room in my sump and would like to remove some rock from my tank and replace it with this.

4 seems like alot for 300 gal. I have 1 in 250gal. I had 2 but determine 1 was plenty. I also have no rock in 120 gallons of that 250 gal system. I would start with 2 but leave room for 4 if u needed it later

I just stuck in a 4x4x8 block in my sump for my 100G tank. It's way more than needed but I had the room so, why not?

From right to left, drain, then socks, skimmer section, return pump, and finally fuge
Pic was taken right after installing it under the stand

I would agree, I have two in my big tank and it seems to be plenty.

Thanks Roger and anbosu your prob right but they were a birthday gift from the wife. Do you think it could cause an issue having to much?

Just curious do you have to clean the bio block every few months ? That's what a fellow reefer told me once and it doesn't make sense wouldn't you wash off all the good bacteria and start the cycle over again?I don't take my rock out and wash them once every few months....

Basically it is recommend to rinse it every month in tank water so u don't loose any bacteria. That way it dosnt get clogged.

That all being said in over a year I have only rinsed it once but I run filter socks and a clean sump so it dosnt get clogged quickly in my setup.

No sock > skimmer > return pump < settling chamber < fuge < settling chamber

The bottom 2 inches of my fuge and return pump chambers are full of .5" ceramic pellets, my thought is they double as a pod haven and extra bio filter. Return chamber also has about a half gallon of the cermedia 1.5" spheres, never any trites or ammonia.
