What's on my Blonde Naso???

I have had this blonde naso for about 2 months now. He is eating well and seems happy. I just noticed these spots on him today. They don't look like ich to me, but maybe I'm wrong? Maybe I'm right, but have no idea what else it could be. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

imo nasos need alot of algae ,seaweed in there diet pellets are good but cannot be feed soley and imo brine is a waste they have high meatabolisms and need to be constantly grazing.

Thera A NLS pellets? Also try Hikari A soaked in Zoe and nasos need a fair amount of brown seaweed IME the ON seaweed selects--green, brown, red are readily accepted (attacked!).

I've put Julian Sprung's green seaweed in there various times and he wont touch it. Thanks for the food advice, but I still have no idea what is on his body.

to me, it looks like it might be ich.
But don't dismiss the dietary comments.
Disease in not-newly introduced fish is usually a sign of a problem.
You need to address the problem AND the illness.

He does look awefully skinny.
Malnutrition can bring about a host of ills, including ich.

What frequency are you feeding him? Tangs are eating machines and really need to be fed multiple times per day. Ideally they should only be introduced into mature tanks.

If the spots come and go it is probably just stress spots. That tang needs to eat a lot though, it is way underweight.

Mine wouldnt eat the seaweed, try rubberbanning it to a rock.

It sounds crazy, but it works.

(After 2 weeks of no seaweed eating, that tricked him in 5 mins, now i can just drop it in the top of the tank)

you can always break up the seaweed with your fingers in the tank. that way it will get used to eating it in the water column. keep putting it in there, it will eventually start eating it. also look at the nutritional facts on everything you are feeding, brine is worthless, mysis is not bad, but nori has about 3-4 times the protein than the others. it is full of nutrition, and should make up more that half of most tangs diet. from the photos it does not look like ich, but it is hard to tell. if you can get it, pick up some selcon and soak everything you feed in it.

Julian Sprung isnt always the best. Try real nori. But that definitely looks like ich! QT him b4 it transfers to ur other fish. Copper treatements are the best IN A SEPARATE TANK! Copper is not good your reef.

I couldn't get my Kole Tang to eat Seaweed until I bought one of these Magnetic Veggie Clips. I like it, because it sways with the current, is easy to use, and the Tang loves it. No more rubber bands on rocks and you don't have to put your hand in the tank.

I agree, Tangs require more seaweed than meaty foods.

That does not look like ich to me... Not a bit.
My naso had the same, they weren't stress spots either. Some other people had the same and they said naso's usualy don't last very long when they get that. Mine didnt die, the spots went away by itself. Dont know what it is, but i will post a pic, because i am almost sure it is the same thing my fish had.

i was at my lfs a few weeks back ago they had a pair of naso tangs - the one had this fungie looking stuff on his body - the other one look great i wanted the bigger one but he had the fungie stuff on his body so i got the littler one- 1 week went by and he had the same thing on his cheek - i kept a close eye on the lil fella after about another week it slowly went away other then that - thats all i know about it - even at the lfs when i had mentioned to the one guy about the tang having that he didnt know what it was- was trying to get him to give me a bit of a discount on the big guy cuz i would have gotten both of them if that was the case and just put the big one in qt for until it all went away

try the purple kind,even my wrasses eat it. also, it needs to be stationary and not floating about the tank. got an algae magnet? samwich it inbetween the magnets and lets it sit. dont have 1? rocks work fine too.

Thanks everyone. I have that magnet veggie clip - I really like it. He FINALLY grabbed a bite or two of the seaweed last night. Where do I get Nori? Is selcon better than garlic?

Stefania - it sounds like what yours had is the same as what mine has. Glad to hear that yours is fine!

I have a hard time believing that nori from the asian market is any better than the Julian Sprungs kind. Maybe you could enlighten me as to what evidence you have to indicate this?

It might be cheaper...but better?!?

My tangs like ON seaweed selects better than Sprung's. His doesn't have garlic in them--they destroy ON--a clip of 6 3"x3" pieces of red, brow, green last maybe 4 min tops--that includes removing the clip turning the part used to hold it initially and finally letting the last piece in the pinchers go!
