Whats The Deal Maroon?!?!

That fish digs worse than a puppy. He has managed to take 3" of pink fiji sand down to the glass in a 6-8" square area.

Hes been in the tank for about a month, just got him an anemone last week.

That sucker is coating my rocks with sand. Besides eat like a pig its all he does. Any ideas?

Plan B is to point a power head shooting the sand right back into the hole he has made.

Good luck keeping up with a maxi 1200 pal :D

Fairly normal behavior. They seem to like to customize a particular spot--as do many other clownfish. Not too much you can do about it.

My ocellaris likes to dig in the sand, she always looks like she's having so much fun I just can't get mad at her. You can always use a turkey baster to uncover your corals, or keep them higher up in the tank out of range :)

I was going to post somthing like this lastnight. I used to not bother me, but its getting out of hand. Mine has dug about 6 inches out from under the bta, so far that she actually made a cave under a rock. Of course im nervous about the rocck tumbling over since its lost half its support. I dont have to worry about stirring my sand bed...

Ive noticed she only does it when i come near the tank. when i spy on her shes always just snuggling in her bta. when im close the sand starts flying. Shes irritating the heck out of my open brain.

Also when i was spying... Shes taking big bites of star polyps and spitting them out. shes not doing this when im near.

I dont think putting the sand back will help. I almost feel bad looking at my tank. Its like it really stresses her out. she starts spitting gravel and making sand storms....

I wouldn't try refilling the whole the maroon digs. He'll just dig it again. Once he has it the way he wants, though, he'll stop. Took mine a few weeks to get to that stage. I don't think it's too much of an eyesore, and it makes my maroon happy, so I've learned to just live with it, especially since it's kept nice, clean and tidy.
