whats the difference?

I currently have 4 65w 10000k and 4 65w actinic pc's on my 75, but they seem to run hot. I am considering switching to t-5's only because I hear they run cooler and are brighter. Is there really that much difference and if I do decide to change can I use the same hoods just change the fittings?

PCs and T5s are not even in the same league. You will get at least 4X the amount of PAR for the same wattage with T5s. You can use the existing hood shell and lamps, but is probably just worth getting a new fixture as you are going to need to get new bulbs, ballasts, and reflectors anyway. You probably won't save that much money.
