How can i figure out how much my systems electric cost is? Do i figure per watt? i have the electric bill in front of me now....what do i need to know?

find out the total wattage of your lights, then multiply by the number of hours used. then the wattage of everything that runs 24/7 and add that to the light x hours total. its pretty impossible to figure out exactly how hard your heater or chiller is working, if you dotn have a chiller i would kinda just forget about countign those. take your new total and divide it by 1000. then multiply by your kilowatt/hour rate. should be anywhere from 5-12cents. let me know how much it was.

Electricity cost formula

wattage x 24 hours / (1000w/kw) x 30 days x (your kwh rate)

example
100w pump

100* 24/1000 * 30 * .15 = $10.80/month

ok i just did it uska, i came up with 30.49 by using 12 as my kilowatthour rate. It just doesnt seem right. soheres my wattage and usage:

192watts=2 96w pc's-13hours

,,return pump=25 watts-24 hours

,,fuge light=10watts-13hours

,,skimmer=25watts-24hours

,,powerhead=20watts-24 hours.....

i dont know my exact kilowatthour so one that is known can be used. Unless you know what it goes for in chicago??!that'd be great! please helpme!!

Don't go by what the pumps or lights say on them!
IT'S WAY OFF WHAT THEY REALLY DRAW!!!

Get a Kill-a-watt device on ebay for like 20 bucks.

Plug it into the wall, plug your power strip into it.
Let it run for a few days (Heaters turn on and off, Lights turn on and off)

Then you push the KWH button. It tells you, you've used for example 168 hours and push it again for KWH used Lets say 49 KWH

SO we divide the KWH by the actual hours it was running so 49/168=.292

So that means you use an average over a week of .292 KW per Hour.

So 24 hours in a day .292 x 24= 7
So you use 7 KWH per day
Now multiply 7 x your electric rate (Mine=0.1537) = $1.08 per day

Now multiply 30 days in a month = $32.28

That's actually what my tank costs to run in the Winter (Really)

Now with that device you can measure ANYTHING in your house!

Ex1: My fridge came out to $60 a month so I bought a new one casue that's insane. Now it's $5.25 per month. (Yeah a new fridge can make that much of a diff)

Ex2:Plugged in my Neptune Washer and gas dryer, it costs me $0.07 cents PER LOAD to wash and dry.

Enjoy the info.
