what's the little hole on the bottom of the pan world pumps for?

I just hooked up my 50-px pump, and I notices a small hole on the bottom of the pump on the impeller end, at the magnet. It has a small rubber plug. What is this hole for? I'm not required to oil this pump am I?

This is the second pan world pump I've added to my system, and I'm very pleased with them. However this one I installed yesterday (50-PX) has a slight 'ticking' sound in the wet end. The pump is level, just a bit more noise than I anticipated. Should I expect it to quiet down over the next few days?

If it's similar to Iwakis, it's for accessing an allen wrench screw that's used to unscrew the internal assembly that spins.
