What's the most important thing?

Having a very understanding wife. And lots of money, the money part isn't a joke.... This hobby is very expensive... You must have all the required equipment along with a fair amount of knowledge. Time and patience helps also. When it all comes together, it is very rewarding. Cutting corners leads to yourself and your livestock suffering....

The answer has to be ... Cash!

I second that, then all the planing comes and maintenance and blah blah blah, but without mucho grande cash, then you won't get very far, but then again, what is your idea of a large tank, I hear people say I have a big tank it's a 55, I have a 200g and I think it's tiny

You dont alwasy need lots of $$$

I have 2 tanks over 100 gallons each. One I bought from a LFS with all the equipment they thought I needed. I spent way too much. The second tank I got used and am piecing together new and used equipment.l In the end I will have 2 very similar systems, but the second will have cost 1/4-1/5 the price of the one from the LFS.

There are some good deals out there if you look!

I myself wouldn't buy anything from the LFS. The markup they charge and the limited large tank equipment they carry. Almost all are into small tank set ups with quick turn over of customers. People who invest large amounts of money tend to stay in the hobby longer. Have more knowledge, and in the long run more successful.

The older I get..... The better I was.

So it seems the consesus is cash.
Does anyone have input about one thing that they have done to there large aquarium that made taking care of the tank so much easier?

Or I guess what I'm asking after the tank is bought and stocked, what has helped the most in taking care of it. Does anybody have input, I am currently in school and planning a large system (200-300G), looking for advice.
