What's the trick to restart a seio 820?

My Seio 820 is all of 4 days old. I unplugged it to reposition it (I'm funny that way...don't like holding an operating powerhead in the tank), and the thing will not restart. I read that this was a problem for the 620, but not the 820. Geez....4 whole days and it won't restart. The motor is working, but the impeller is not. I've never owned a Rio product before...I'm beginning to think I should have known better!

I had one that did that and what i did to get it to start was put my hand over the intake and move it to and from the intake and for some reason it would start to work right.

Sorry if I didn't explain that well, just try messing with the intake suction and see if that helps

I usually have to loosen the nut on the nozzle and spin the impeller by hand to get them to start after shutting off if it won't restart. I had one i had to send back to TAAM to get fixed because it wouldn't restart at all.

I lifted it to the surface while running so it began to run dry. It "started right up" on the third attempt. Thanks all. Dare I say...typical Rio product? ...You can dress a pig up in a tuxedo, but it's still a pig. I am happy with the flow though....

I had a couple of these SEIO's (820, 620) that would stop working when turned off, I use to fiddle and fiddle to get them to restart but eventually they never restarted. I soaked them in vinegar and took apart and finally I threw them in the trash. In my opinion they are crap... A bad design. I went with Tunze streams and few Maxijets. I feel ripped off by the SEIO purchase.

I had the same problem with my 1500. After a week it wouldn't restart and this is what I found. The magnet on the impellar was cracked down both sides. Sent it back and got a new one. Just like you said it's still a pig!

I have purchased 3, took the smaller first one back and got two 1500's. All have the same problem of not restarting. I have to start them under water with the cap off turn or jiggle the propeller then try and screw the cap back on while it is still running, not what I consider convenient. They are fine as long as you never have to turn them off. I consider them a faulty product that should be improved. I have to shake my head as to how they could release a product that does not restart. Rate them a 2, rate my tunze streams a 10 in comparison. Rio should be ashamed, yet people buy them up so why should they change. Buyer beware, if you can live with this issue.

I would send it back.
As a consumer you shouldn't have to fiddle with a new product to make it work.

I would guess its because they do move a lot of water and are a fraction of the price of tunze.

That "fraction of a price" is a false economy.

If I was out of town for a couple of days and the power went out...my tank would be without circulation even if the power came back on.

This is unacceptable.

I'm not going to promote other brands here, but there are several ways of getting reliable flow in your tank. However, none include using a product made by the tank killers at TAAM.

"you get what you pay for"
you want a pump for a fraction fo the cost? youll get a pump that is a fraction of the quality, spend the few extra bucks, your coarls will thakn you

It isn't that simple Mr. Pink Floyd. I posed the question on the tunze forum weeks ago about adding a tunze to a 75G Softie.LPS tank with a dsb (which is my intent), Roger advised against it.

I would rather nave a tunze on my 75, but they are two strong. I have 3 820's aimed in different directions with a mag 12 on a SCWD as return. the cheapest tunze is still close to the current I have.
