What's the worst injury you sustained working on your tank?

For me, I used to have a UVC sterilizer in my sump. Ignored the warnings and cleaned out my sump for an hour with the UVC nearby. Next day and for a week had a major sunburned face. Im a dumbaxx.

Another time, I was working with Kalk powder. Dud smthg to cause a temp cloud of it in the air and took a couple breaths not knowing it was bad for you. Firvthe next 3 days my throat and lung were slightly sore. Again, I'm a dumbaxx

Last month I killed off a bunch of ugly palys in the DT by smothering them with homemade Kalk paste. A day later I did a deep clean on my sump. With all those palys dying the water must have had a bunch of palytoxin in the water. For 2 days I lost my appetite, had a headache, felt lightheaded.

what are some if your injury stories?

I just placed an order for a bubble home for you. Should be at your door tomorrow before you start your weekend maintenance.

Multiple multiple bite wounds from my female clown. The male just stays near the eggs but the female will do a full blown attack.

Oh where to start, stuck by a long spine urchin, stuck by a lionfish, bit by various clowns and even a shark once, cut myself on various corals and tools.

By far the worst was electricity related. My canister filter popped a hose and was spraying water all down the back of the tank. I reached to unplug the power cords not realizing they were covered in saltwater. I woke up and luckily I had passed out on dry carpet...

Got a nasty vibrio infection in my hand one time - month long course of antibiotic took care of it. Fortunate that my doc is also a reefer.

Pulled my back pulling carpet and pad out of the basement after my sons tank seam burst. Poor kid was also in tears.

No GFI?

Electrocuted from a light fixture that was all corroded. No gfi cos I plugged it in to see if it actually worked or not.

Spent a week off work after getting just a little too up close and personal with texas trash palys.

Many years ago (pre-GFI) I had a powerhead stop working on my undergravel filter. Unplugged it and took it to the kitchen sink to clean. Took it all apart, cleaned it up and put it in a bowl of water to test. Plugged it in and nothing happened, so I reached into the bowl to give it a good shake.

Let me repeat that. Reached into the metal bowl, sitting in the metal sink. I woke up a few seconds later across the room leaning against the wall. Walked around the house for about an hour telling myself "Sure - I'm ok". Shoulda gone to the ER, but I worked there and didn't want to be laughed at by my coworkers.

Easily could have killed me.

LOL, this was 35 years ago, pre Home Depot, Lowes, computers, internet and forums. GFI might have existed back then, but at 10 years old I had never heard of it. I was the only one I knew that even had a Saltwater aquarium. I was learning as I went with books and TFH magazine. Now...yes...everything GFI!

Exact same thing for me, she was the killer fish (leopard wrasse) in my tank. Last month i exchange her for a baby at my lfs, so the male will undergo the female transformation and get more agressive once the hormones start to work...

When I was scraping algae of the glass, my doliatus rabbitfish jumped out of the tank and I grabbed it mid-air. Got stung over 5+ different places on both may hands and couldn't do anything with my hands for 2 days due to swelling and pain.

Sounds worse than catching a falling knife LOL.

broke my thumb hand tightening a bulkhead. I was in ER filled with people with nasty flu on new year's eve. I can use my thumb again now after 6 months, but still does not feel right.

Stuck my elbow into the top of a 12" round carpet anemone.

Had to use a plastic scraper to slowly get him off my arm.
