What's up with my crazy wrasse?

So I've had my beautiful Vrolik's wrasse for about a month. When I first added him to the tank, he hid for a day or two, then came out. For a few days, he'd hide in the morning and come out in the afternoon. Then for a few weeks, he was out all the time.

Then it got weird. Last Friday he was out just fine. Didn't see him again Saturday, Sunday, or Monday. I was thinking maybe he jumped (I do have a lid) or maybe he died. Then yesterday morning he was out first thing in the morning and out all day. Now today, no sign of him.

What is up with this wrasse? I've been changing my light cycle a little - is that it? He's never been harassed, not once. He eats great and doesn't bother anyone, and again, no one bothers him. I have a tiny little yellow coris wrasse that is always out. The two wrasses completely ignore each other.

Weird. Any ideas?

i have a firefish that only comes out during the first few hours of the morning lights then hides for the rest of the day. fish can just be weird.

It might take a week for most fishes biological clock to adapt to your photo period. Especially if the fish shipped from east coats to west or vice verse. So basically they get jet lagged. Maybe it cannot adjust to your photo period since you are tweaking it.

That makes sense. I feel bad for messing with him. I'm leaving the lights where they are now.

I've had the same thing happen with other halichores wrasses even after they had been in the tank for a while. I wouldn't worry about it.

Did yours ever get on a regular schedule of being out and about? I worry him not eating for days on end....
