what's wrong with my goby?

I have a yellow diamond watchman goby that's been in quarantine for 3 days. Everything's been ok, but I haven't seen him eat yet. He normally stays in the back corner of the tank. I know he's a sand sifter, but my QT is bare bottom. I asked around and searched on RC to see if he'd do ok in there without sand, and the general consensus was that he would be ok, and that others had done it with no problems. I came home from work today and went to feed them, and there's something wrong with him.. I've included a pic. It looks like his mouth is bruised or something... almost like he's been crashing into the glass really hard or something. Anyone have any ideas? or suggestions? I've been trying NL pellets, Cobalt Brine Pellets & Flakes, Frozen Brine & Mysis Shrimp, etc... Doesn't seem like he's interested in eating at all.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

I have no idea what's up with his mouth but he is REALLY skinny! Do you have lots of hiding places for him to make him feel more comfortable?
Try soaking his food in water with crushed garlic, let it soak for an hoir, then squirt it right at his face. That's the best way I've gotten difficult fish to eat. good luck!

I think I heard somewhere about putting a small Tupperware dish with some sand in it in the qt for gobies. Maybe try that.

I'd say thats probably a good idea, he does look pretty skinny. Whilst you can QT sandsifting gobies without a sandbed thats only if they'll actually accept the prepared foods.

Try put food under sand in the Tupperware. They sift for their food so he should get some that way. I have had about 3 diamond gobies over the years and eventually they all didn't make it. Longest was a year and they all ate good but just don't think they get the micro fauna they get in the wild.
