whats wrong with my monnticap

just noticed underside of my orange monticap......is it a disease or maybe dying? or is this normal? ive had it 6 months now and it hasnt grown at all:headwally:

What kind of light do you have?

How far below the light is it?

Did you acclimate it to the light or just pick a spot and glue?

I've seen that from gluing as mentioned above. For me the orange cap seems to enjoy lower light. I have one growing well under about 70 par daylight. How is the color on the piece?

ok........i never glues it to anything,i have it lower in my tank,i have 4xt5's all bubls are made by the company who makes the purple figi's. my alk was low and sg a little high and ph was a lil low for a week......but i have everything stable now. only thing i can think of that is still off is my temp. it stays at around 80.4 all the dang time! what can i do (without the expense of a chiller) to lower my temp? i dont have glass cover on my tank either!

Get yourself a small fan to blow across the top of the tank to help with the temperature.

In my experience, Montiporas are the "canary in the coal mine" when it comes to alk swings. They're the first to show stress/die off.

On the other side of that coin, they do bounce back fairly quickly once things stabilize.

I agree with Joe- your temperature is fine.

Yep, I would guess Alk first. Take a couple days to bring it back to normal levels. Your temp is fine.

This has been my experience as well. I lost a huge piece of orange cap recently. It died off after an alk swing.

x everybody else: temp (80F) is fine. In fact.......... optimal IMO.

Alkalinity would appear to be the problem. Easily and cheaply correctable.
