So how do you acclimate new sps? I've heard some just float the bags to adjust water temp and then place corals in the tank, I know many will drip but for how long?
I just dip in revive with a mixture of 50% water of the bag and 50% water from the tank then put in the tank !
If it was not for the dipping I would put it directly in the tank with no acclimatation at all..

+1 I do this with all my corals. I do think its good do 50/50% water. Also ALWAYS DIP! I use CoralRx but there are other popular, reliable dips out there.
I just toss me in lol. I know it's not proper but most of the LFs I buy from Quarantine there corals before they sell them. I have never had an spa die from this approach over the past 7 years.
thanks for everyones input here and I've always floated and dipped but after a recent problem I had with a large purchase of corals that I received where all of frags I got lost all of their tissue after being in my system for 3 days, the vendor suggested that it was my acclimation process. I questioned them on that because I had also received a few large colonies in the order and they are fine. My feeling is the frags were cut right before delivery based on the appearance of the frag plugs. The vendor told me they had been cut and mounted for 3 weeks but the plugs were very clean as well as the area where the frag was glued. I would think that after 3 weeks there would be some encrusting and coloration from algae growth. I know that when I mount new frags that after a few days the glue and the plug are changing colors.

I do the same thing, but dip in revive 4 capfuls / 1 gallon water.
Inspect for pests, place in QT tank for a few days to weeks depending on the appearance of the polyps and base. Hitchhikers are always a big concern to me in a large display tank.
I temp acclimate and dip in Coral RX then its straight into the tank. Frags or colonies, I never acclimate them to my water. Been doing it that way for 4 years without any issues. If you have good water quality, it will not matter.
