When clowns are getting ready to spawn

What do they typically do?
I've been watching my pair of Picasso percs and they seem to be doing a lot more nesting and shaking than usual... Maybe they are preparing?
They are picking at the rocks behind their nem a lot , and the male is doing a lot of vibrating everywhere, with and without his partner. This weekend they were stirring up the sand under the nem, shaking and vibrating etc.
is this typical or are they preparing to spawn?

Keep an eye on the cleaning out section. Mine were doing the same thing, but I ended up moving that rock.. OOPS...

I moved it because they were always going behind it and I wanted to see what they were doing, not thinking that they were nesting it out. OOPS.. hahaha

haha, thats something i would do too...the gig has been relocating now for the past few weeks, i thought he was "home" but it moved slightly again the other day. its still up front on theleft side of my tank but is pointing towards the right rear corner instead of the front right corner...I have been moving my tunzes around to get better flow throughout the tank after a rockwork change, and the nem moves after the flow changes..

When the clowns getting ready to spawn, you will see the female eat more and start to have significantly bigger belly. When you start to see this, belly of the female start to get fatter, they will not be long before they start to spawn.

All the other signs are just secondary and not reliable.

can clowns spawn even if they aren't hosting an anemone? Mine are just starting to go near the RBTA and I have noticed the shaking and the females belly getting larger. I am not really looking for them to spawn so I guess if they do the eggs will become food for the hermit crabs and fire goby's in the tank.

Yes they can. Clowns don't need an anemone. They can host anything. Once they start cleaning a specific spot on a rock then keep an eye out. But it'll just become food.
