When do you know your SPS is Too Far Gone?

Let me ask this question in a new way. I have a 3 SPS in a BIO HQI. everything has been doing great till my house watcher did not have the lights on for the amount of time i asked him to. Only 1 of them is looking a bit bad. Its brown and only a few of the polyps are extended. I know it is still ticking. Over the past few days it has slowly gaining its color back. What can i do to ensure that it comes back and healthy. any supps that i can give it for a speedy recovery or is it dead and i just dont know it yet. all of the water prams are great. I have concluded it was a lighting issue. Any Ideas or suggestions to help my little sps out? Thanks.

how long were the lights out? once and a while i shut my lights off for a weekend to simulate a storm. they usually come back better then ever. i would wait it it out and see what happens.

Wait..your house watcher didn't have the lights on? Why aren't they on a timer? It's one of the simplest things to automate. Secondly, sps is only gone when the flesh is off the bone, and all that is left is a clean skeleton.

the flesh its still there. I am asking because i dont know. the lights did not get the full time i asked him to have it on for. I just want to know what bad is bad and when you know it is gone. when i left it looked great few days later its brown.

I'd keep it until there is very little flesh left...I've had a coral completely die except for a small branch of it..I cut it off and glued it to a plug and it grew no problems. My friend broke off a piece of bonsai that was probably a quarter of an inch..and it grew into a minicolony no problem. If a lot of it is dead..just break off the good part and try again.

They're gone when they've been on the frag rack for several months and all you can see is the basic outline of the skeleton under the coralline algae. Even then, I don't pull them out of the tank. I have a Tyree Flower Petal Monti that was completely overgrown and arose from the dead probably 6 months after I'd given up on it. It's a nice green monti with beautiful baby blue polyps. Basically, leave it in there until it falls apart.

Any supps that might help things along? everything is balanced out and at normal levels. I just want to do everything i can to make sure it gets better.

It will be okay. Some people turn light off for 3 days just to get rid of cyano and the corals can stand the light out. It will recover as long as all parameters are good. Have patience.

I have never had any SPS till now. Never had anyone else that had them to let me know the things people have to learn the hard way. Thanks you can read as much as possible but sometimes the only way to learn is on your own two feet.

Nothing good happen fast in a sps reef tank. I wouldn't add anything to your aquarium and they will slowly but surely get back to full. Give it a few weeks and you should be back at 100%.
