When I first Joined Reef Central I learned......

that all LFS are evil, corporate, greedy entities that are to be destroyed by using lime juice, phosphate sponges and if all else fails just boil them.

...edit...
I realized that sarcasm is difficult to interpret online. Many LFS are not "bad" and should be supported. You are responsible for your animals though, not them. You need to be knowledgeable and able to determine which LFS should be avoided... and which LFS should be supported.

That RC is a great way to make that last hour at work pass by a little quicker :)

Not to mention the seven before it :D

I 'learned' that adding an anemone to a tank that is less than 6 months old will cause it to instantly die.

..that vodka, sugar, pickling lime, lemon juice, garlic, and driveway de-icer can be poured into a tank- with potentially Beneficial results.

But.... copper, brass, aluminum, some types of stainless steel, roach spray, ant spray, greasy hands, lotion, coolaide, too much heat, too little heat, too much salt, not enough salt, children in general, money, and fish from the LFS can all be poured into a tank with disastrous results!! :D

Don't use sugar, vodka, skimming, zeovit, feeding less, phosphate reactors, denitrators, barebottom tanks, deep sand beds, shallow sand beds, rubble bottoms, sulphur reactors, xenia, probidio, caulerpa, chaetomorpha, mangroves, benthic zones, or water changes as a means to lower your nitrates/phosphates: you need to pinpoint the source of your excess nutrients instead of using a band aid solution

Yeah it's really easy...Just take an eydropper full of water, drop it on a cutting board, cut out the excess nutrients, and you're done. Do that 100,000,000x and you should be algae free for years!

1. You are on your own. You'd better read, read, read and then make a decision for yourself.
2. A good book is a vastly superior entry point to this hobby.
3. Of the near infinite message boards found on the Intarwebs, ReefCentral is probably the most civil one I've found.

If you want lots of hits on your post use the words "tang" and "29g" in your title. Otherwise Never Never Never say the word "tang" on this forum unless you want to unleash the beast.

That the big money I paid the LFS for Crushed Coral would have been better suited flushed down the drain. The CC now looks good in our garden (once the snow melts).

that there ARE people out there with less of a life then me!
Surprising ain't it! LMAO

1. Don't attempt to do anything against the status quo and make it public no matter how great it actually works unless you want to forget reading RC and just spend time defending yourself.

2. The fact you have personally tried and fixed/solved a problem some one is asking for help on makes it irrelevant if it is against the status quo.

3. Anyone attempting anything outside the status quo is an idiot and the crash of their tank is imminent, despite scientific fact. (see #4)

4. Scientific fact is strictly opinion and most definitely wrong if it is contrary to the status quo. (See # 5)

5. Studies done 10 years ago on constants are no longer valid only because time has elapsed. i.e. 15 DKH causes no harm to corals in 1989 but in 2007 it will kill everything.

6. If you use T5s, halides are for suckers. If you use MH, T5 are for suckers, despite both growing awesome corals.

7. Most people on RC are great people who really should be commended for their efforts in the advancement of the state of the art.

8. Thanks to RC I have had the opportunity to correspond with people from all over the world and to build friendships I never would have otherwise.

9. I will get dragged over the carpet for the opinions I have expressed in this post :D

There are at least a thousand different things that can be done to help a hair algae problem. And if you are not able to immediately find a thread discussing the problem, wait 5 minutes.

That my user name invokes rage, prejudice, and stereotyping in some people.

And that the loss in productivity because of RC must cost the world billions of dollars every year :)
