When is the qt process over?

I have a firefish thats been in qt for close to 2 months now. It had ich when I got it, which lasted for a week, and it has been ich free ever since. So 6 whole weeks without any signs of ich, is it ok to put him in the DT tank now? How do I know my qt is ich free, just because the fish has not had ich in weeks, does this mean the tank is ich free?

If you didnt treat him for ich with hypo or copper then he still has it his immune system just overcame it.If he was stressed he could very well get sick again. If on the other hand you treated for it and its been 6 weeks since he had it then i would think you are more then safe.

If you didn't treat him with copper, then I would definitely dose curpramine for 4wks before putting him into the DT.
Sometimes 4wks is still not long enough so you will need to play it by ear. I had a sailfin tang that still had spots after 4wks of cupramine. He ended up staying in QT for over 10wks

Gotcha, I figured low salinity and proper feeding would be sufficient, but I will treat with copper. Will copper be ok for my gobie?

Someone else may want to comment on this, but I'm pretty sure you should do the hypo and copper at the same time...that's what I've heard. I imagine it is just to stressfull an environment for the fish.

That was a mistake in my typing, I meant that you should NOT do them at the same time.

If you have been doing hypo properly the whole time then it should be fine...i was under the impression that you were just observing the fish and the ich went away.If you kept the salinity at 1.009 for 6 weeks then i would be pretty satisfied that you are fine and not use copper. If on the other hand you kept it lower then 1.026 say 1.015 or so that would not be good enough to kill the ich.
