...go into complete panic mode. You would think their world is ending. The female jams her nose in there and starts kicking up sand that makes my pistol shrimp sand storms look tame. The male just does little circles like a chicken with its head cut off. It is actually a little humorous. Does anyone's eles clowns do this?

Mine dont like it that is for sure, but they don''t have sand to kick up!'Their security blanket has just been pulled.

LOL, mine will keep trying to get in and then finally give up and go to one of the others I have in my tank. They do have their favorite tho.

Ya, I didnt expect them to but my clowns want nothing to do with my LTA. I will be adding a BTA or 2 once i get this new 120ish gallon tank set up.

What kind of anemone is it and how long have you had it? Why do you think it closes? Are you talking about when it eats? Or are there other times when it closes?

The only time I've seen my clowns get very agitated -- where they try to bulldoze their nose's into the nem's mouth -- is when the nem was sick.

It is a BTA. It closes regularly to poop or just for no reason at all. It happens at some point almost every day. It always opens back up again within a couple hours. From what I understand it is pretty normal. When they close they push all the water inside them out and draw in fresh water when they reopen.

In that case, it's fine as BTAs do do this from time to time. The clowns will have to get used to it. :D

Actually, I just noticed that you said the same time every day. That's not normal. BTAs -- as will other anemones -- do this from time to time, and it is to purge their contents, as you mentioned. However, it's usually indicative of a problem -- be it a bacterial infection or issue with your water parameters. It could also be an issue with the zoox receiving too much light and the nem having to shut down, though usually they just move. How long has it been doing this?
