When to add clean up crew

Yes, good luck by all means. Excellent post, Chrisstie. I think you have probably helped him more than I ever could. Funny how you can have so much patience with your tank, but not enough patience to type all you know. Go figure!

Well after reading Chrisstie's post I did alot more looking around and read alot more about what I need to do.

I started a tank to cure all of my live rock befor I put in my main tank. I will be going out Wensday to get me a test kit and the rest of the time I will just sit back and wait.:D

Just to let everybody know the clownfish is doing great hes eating good and he looks happy so I think thats a good start to a great hobby.

Thanks agian to everyone who posted.

P.S. Well keep everybody posted through out my progress.

I am so glad to hear I can help. I could write a novel sometimes I think because theres so much to learn you literally find out somethign new every day!

It sounds like you're on a much more stable start and am very glad to hear your clown is doing well. i can't wait to eventually get a pair for my tank!

Looking forward to your progress, too!

Well its been two weeks and every thing is going great. I tested my water and this is what it read:

Nitrite:0ppm
Nitrate:0ppm
Ammonia:0ppm
PH:8.2

Is it possible for my nano to cycle in just two weeks?

How long sould I wait until I can get some shrimp. Cause what the plan is to get some shrimp wait a couple weeks then a clean up crew then wait a couple more weeks then try one of the easier corals. Last but not least I would like to get a small gobie.

One last question the live rock I''m buying is coming out of already cycled tanks so do I still need to cure them or would they already be cured coming out of a cycled tank?

I think that is all questions for right now:D Thanks

Sounds like the rock is already cured if it's been in the other tank for a few weeks or longer. As far as the amount of rock needed, the recommendation is 1 1/2 lb per gallon, so about 20 lbs would do. That will provide enough natural filtration in your 14g.

Water looks great, just don't forget the water changes on a reg basis for the best results.

I would prob wait another week on the shrimp. If params stay like you posted above, then you should be plenty safe to add a shrimp or two.

Keep in mind that the algea blooms haven't started yet. 1st will prob be a brown algea called diatoms, then a green algea, maybe hair algea or similiar. Prob a perfect time to add some snails would be when the first algea bloom occurs. This will give them something to feed on.

That should keep you going for a few more weeks.
