When to change sediment filter

Have only had my RO/DI up and running for a couple of months, but the sediment filter looks nasty. When should I change it? Based on color or time?

looks would be a better guide than time. another way is by pressure. when all filter cartridges are brand new, the flow at the output is at maximum, and gradually slows down as the filters get clogged. lower input pressure (due to clogged pre-filters) can cause the waste water line to have a continuous drip also.

Thanks for the reply! So how bad do I get it looking? It's tan right now.. like... oak. LOL. I don't have a pressure gauge on my system but the waste line isn't dripping.
