when to feed bbs to dottybacks?

I have all sides of the tank dark. Even at two weeks if I take the front paper off to clean the tank the larvae seem to get disoriented so I take the front paper off when the room is dark. I have thought about increasing the Tet. but worry that if I get the concentration too high it will effect the nutrition of the rotifers and bbs.

Here is a picture of the tank, nothing special just a ten with a hetaer and an airline going to each corner. Tried to get a picture of the little ones but still too small, just look like a blur.
Wasn't a great day again, lost about ten and quite a few look weak again.

A bit off topic but related, I just can't figure out what's up with the price of fridmani these days  Not long ago I reproted that both arabians and orchids could now be had for less cb than wc, the price at wholesale (wc) was through the roof if you could even find one. Now I see them on the availability lists for $16.75 ! They are Red Sea imports, not captive bred. What the hello there is going on  Market fluctations? If you raise these guys just sit on them until the right time :D

I can't figure out the prices either. Petco in town sells them for 24.95 and I have seen them on sale for 19.99. The LFS store sells them for $65. Right now it doesn't look like I am going to have to worry about how to get rid of too many.

The PetCo fish are ORA cb, the lfs fish are Red Sea wild caught. What I am saying is that this week wc are cheap as cb again.

Next time use full dose of the antibiotic 1 gram for every 50 gal. or 200 mg/10gal. Use the Neomycin for the artemia and the RH that you mention you did not use and you will raise most of them to juvies.

thanks for the info Edgar. Should I dose the 200 mg once a day?I am still having this mouth fungus or mouth deformity problem, not sure what it is. Is there any safe med I can try for mouth fungus. I definitely have to get some rh. I'm almost afraid to find out what that is going to cost. I'm sure it doesn't come in small amounts. I still have eight that look good but don't seem to be growing much.
I have tried to post this twice now, lets see if it works this time.

I thought the same thing, couldn't have been more wrong. It is surprisingly inexpensive and avilable in a bottle roughly quart sized.

You dose every day, the way I do it, keep in mind this is the hatchery way, I dose in the evening before lights out. In the morning I open the water , just a trickle, to flush the medication, the tank drains on the floor. The next nite repeat...

You can remove about 2-3 gallons from the larval tank ( 10 gal.) and replace the water with a drip from a bucket or something.

The antibiotic will help a little with the fungus, i never treated larvae for fungus but dottys seem to take medication really well.

The RH costs about 58 dollars, it is about a liter, the bad thing is that it lasts a long time.

Ussually around day 10-12 you will see some withish/pink/orange pigmentation when they are still pelagic, the purple coloration does not begins until settlement. metamorphosis happens around day 22-30. Adding some shelter to the tank, live rock pvc etc. will "speed up" meta when they go from pelagic to benthic.

I have not raised dottys in a couple of years, this is from my memory, I got two spaws yesterday, I let you know how many die, I mean how it goes.

I think I am seeing a purplish sheen on some of the bigger ones. Best of luck with your spawns. I know I wouldn't have gotten this far along with them without the info you have given me. I held off on my rh order, if I have a few from this spawn survive that may be enough of an accomplishment for me. The time and expense sure add up fast.

I have gone as far as 21 days and saw no color fwiw. They were BIG though

Wouldn't you just know it, you have me all pumped up about orchids and I have a beautiful nest that will hatch tonight. Alas I also have an ocellaris nest hatching tonight and the given the quantity of rots I know those dotty's will eat I can't possibly feed them without shorting the oc's. I will have to wait for the next spawn :(

They really can clean out the rots. My rots are just staring to get some good numbers again since there aren't many dottybacks remaining and they seem to like the bbs better. The good thing about the dottybacks is they are machines when it comes to breeding, you don't have to wait long for another hatch.

Wow!! I checked my oc's about an hour ago, they had a nice hatch about 200 or so. I average 60-75 survivors these days. Just now I went down to see how they were doing and shined the light into the dottyback tank, it looked like a snowstorm. I didn't pull the nest, just left it with dad which is normally a bad idea. Not this time, I think they have finally matured like my gsm's :D I have gotten pretty good at estimating clownfish larvae, I'd guess there were 5-700 orchids, maybe more. Auto pilot took over and I siphoned out a couple hundred, then realized I had no place to put them. I looked around the fishroom and decided on an abused and abandoned larval tank that has been on a slow drip from the main system, it is carpeted with hydroids but it's all I had. I dumped them in there. Will see what it's like in the morning and maybe try to work with them.
