When to get a 2nd clown?

I've had my first ocellaris for about 2 weeks and it's quite small. I was just wondering how long I should wait before getting a 2nd one? I know that one should be significantly larger so does that mean 1 year from now? I don't know how to sex them at all.

Here's a pic if it helps.

In a 120, I think you could add another clown any time you wish. There should be plenty of room to establish their own turf.

you can go ahead and add a clown now or you can wait your choice.

if you wait id give it 6 months or so to allow yours to fully mature.

all clowns start out sex-less they then either turn into a male or female, if there is a dominant clown presnt they will become male if there isnt then female.

when the dominant female dies the dominant male will become functioning female and a smaller clown will then become the male.

I knew it worked something like that I just wasn't sure if it was ideal to wait until this one "matured" and then adding a little one or just adding a similar sized one and let them mature together.

I'm going to be moving tanks very soon so I will just add a second clown on the day of the move!

Thanks a lot everyone!

I initially bought two juvenile ocellaris clowns for my 29gal last year, which were from the same tank-reared batch. Everything I've read suggested that buying two at a time was pretty much a sure way to get them to pair up peacefully, which I discovered is not always the case. Within a few weeks one of them became the aggressor. It took a few more weeks, but the constant chasing and nipping eventually wore the other one down and led to his demise, despite his submissive behavior (which the aggressive one ignored).

It's been about 6 months now, so I will probably try again with another small clown. I think it really just depends on the individual fish.

Good luck!

Mine took longer than six months to mature. I had an adult and added a juvie with it's anem. It didn't take too long for them to start sharing the sebae in my tank. They would do all this really interesting body language at first but are good buds now.
