When to Worry?

I have a male Rhomboid wrasse that I've had for a couple of weeks. I just added a Red Velvet wrasse that is about five inches long. I think the sheer size of the new wrasse has intimidated my Rhomboid and made him hide. So mu question is, when should concern become worry? I haven't seen the Rhomboid in around 24 hours. I don't want to tear the tank apart if I don't have to. Could the Rhomboid just need a little time to come back out? I am removing the Velvet wrasse FYI. I also have a tight fitting screen top so the Rhomboid hasn't jumped.

I would have worried when the red velvet hit the water.. My buddies killed all other wrasses in his 220g tank. ( large red velvet killed a flame, 3 flashers and a solarensis)

The Red Velvet never showed signs of aggression towards the Rhomboid. The Rhomboid just immediately hid. I mean more along the lines of when should I worry about the Rhomboid becoming too weak to recover from lack of food.

if healthy it should be fine for a couple weeks, not to mention pods. In a 30 x 30 tank though i fear for the rhomboid in the end, red velvets get big and mean, rhomboids are timid and much calmer

Red Velvet has already been removed so I guess now it's a waiting game to see if the Rhomboid decides it's safe to come out again.

A fish doesn't have to be attacked to know what fish are potential threats. I doubt that he'll starve himself, this is very rare with healthy (even though timid) fish.

Thank you all for the replies I appreciate your time. I have a Marj's Fairy Wrasse too that never paid attention to the Red Velvet. It seemed to only affect the Rhomboid. My favorite fish of course!

I have a goby that will come out every day for a week and will disappear for months at a time only to reappear when I write him off!
