hey all my tank has been up for about a month... and i added cheato about a week ago from a friends tank in my fuge... WHEN SHOULD I expect to see pods?? whats the best way to see them? thanks!

Amphipods should be fairly easy to see (up to about 1/4 inch). You probably got some on the Cheato -- wait a while, and you'll probably see them all over your 'fuge. Seems like it took a month or so. Give them some rocks and places to hide / breed in. Copepods are really tiny and harder to see. I also ended up with lots of mysid shrimp in the 'fuge, but didn't really notice them for a few months (I might have mistaken them for Amphipods, though). You just need to look at the 'fuge very closely -- best after the lights just come on and everything is out. I even recently discovered several baby brittle stars in there (about 1.5 inches across).

If you want more small animals, feeding some phytoplankton will help get the numbers up. I use DT's phytoplankton or BioPlankton, usually.

No fuge here but right after my lights come on I have TONS and TONS of small pods all over my sand and rocks and even on my glass. That is probably the best way to see them.

Have you ever seen pods in someone else's tank? You might already have them, but don't realize how small they are until you know what you're looking for.

Might want to try with a flashlight at night. Also, when you took the chaeto out, did you notice any of them crawling on it?
