when you're doing water changes...

Do you ever stir the water as fast as you can to see how big of a whirlpool you can make? I do. This is probably one of the reasons why I'm still single...

ta,thats nothing.I sit and watch my WC barrel as it aerates for hours and then I test the sg,cal,mg,and alk repeatedly, and make adjustments til its on the cross hairs.jus sayin

but yea, thats a cool whirlpool. It be a good one to give someone a swirly in

Btw, have you noticed IO mixing up a lil high on the alk? Last batch I had mixed a little over 10dkh at 1.025

No Tony,I have not gotten any over 9 dkh @ 1.026 sg but I am using the 200 gallon boxes. The pails are a bit less consistent with smaller mixing batches given the different particulate size and the settling that occurs with variable size and density of solids.

What are you using to test all with? I use the Hanna checker and if I don't break every single bubble in the tube I'll get a high reading

salifert, same test kit that tests my tank alk at 9.3 every time & my previous batch of IO at about 8.5, I checked it against the sample that comes with the kit as well.

I use a Koralia I bought used. It mixes the salt and keeps it moving to aerate it. It mounts to the tub with a magnet and uses very little power. I actually let it going for DAYS...heated, but then my water changes are usually 50g at a time.
