Where can get tankbred Black Saddleback Clowns?

Wow thanks for the info.
Why is grow out so difficult? Do they just die off?

I'm sure those Picassos will go for quite a bit. Congratulations on your success.

Talk about die off.. I have been at this for over 18 months and have really just now figured it out.. I have not been able to find any info on breeding them and anyone I contacted did not know ... definetly harder than other species.. I have a 265 system and had them for 4 years before they started breeding. I have my living room with 2 partitioned grow out tanks, a fry tank , and a hatch out tank, 2 tanks of live rotifers, and the food for the rotifers is 90.00$ for 1 liter( I use that in 2 months) the rotifers have to be fed daily and tanks drained and cleaned every 2-3 days, the fry tanks need to be flushed 2x per day and fed fresh rotifers after the flush. all these tanks are plumbed into the main tanks sump. then after they get their first stripe they go into a grow out tank and need to be taught how to eat flake food and the whole time at each stage many of them don't make it sooo it has been a challenge for me and expensive.

Wow. That's dedication. I'm impressed. Hopefully the sale of those Picassos will help with your expenses.

The link above didn't work but I Googled it and found the website. I used to live in Clearwater and plan to visit soon. Hopefully I'll be able to take some Clowns back with me.

Do you have any pics of your babies or your setup?

Thanks for the kudos.. I have both video and still pics of them actually breeding and such and the different stages of development .. I'll up load when I have time.. I'm in college and am very busy with classes as it is, but I'll get around to it.

That must be a sight. I can't wait to see.

I spoke to Pierre at The Coral Corral and he said he would have the Clowns in about two weeks. I'm assuming they're yours?

I have some more questions when you get a chance, if you don't mind.

Do you raise the fry with some sort of anemone, artificial or real?
What are the chances they will take to my Haddoni?

I was also curious what type of stripe pattern they have since they seem to vary quite a bit, with either a smaller saddle or a continuous stripe. I think this depends on where they're from but perhaps the tank bred fish vary amongst themselves.

Heres some answers... I raise them in bare tanks, they will take to an anemone later on, I don't see a problem with that, it is all instinctive for them to host with anemones.. I have the three picassos now.. one has a large spot of white on its side one side only and a partial saddle. the others can be described as strange stripes, the rest of the normal ones are just like the parents .. they have the yellow face and black bodies and bob up and down like the parents, ...and yea he is probably talking about my clownes.. I have a batch of about 200 eggs hatching tonight.. they usually hatch between 10 and midnight and are very small about the size of a period at the end of a sentence in a news paper, and prety much clear with eye spots..they stay small for 6-8 days then turn black and increase to double that size .. they then grow out for about a month to about 1/4 inch, during that time they get one stripe and their eyes develope.. did I mention that I have have to keep them in darkness for the first week I shield the hatch tank to keep light to a minimum. I'll post more soon

It sounds fascinating. I do hope to breed Clowns one day but I would start out with Ocellaris obviously.

Why do you keep them in the dark for the first week?

I can't wait to get my little Clowns : )
