Where can I buy a mated clown pair, online?

My tank is all messed up, I am letting it sit for a month with no fish..long story..

My first fish I want to add will be a clownfish pair. Where is a good place to get a mated pair (not just two that share a tank at the LFS)

What kind of clowns should I get? (something not too tiny)

:)

What is the plan for the 'mated pair?' The reason I ask is that a pair that has spawned is much more expensive than a pair that has 'bonded' meaning they are in the same tank and hang out together.

If you really want a pair that is spawning you'll have to find one in a trading area such as here on RC or at rareclownfish.com

If you are looking for a pair that shows a pair bond look at your LFS for two that are showing a relationship in the tank or look at a website that lists a 'pair' of clowns. www.mknwaves.com often lists pairs and is a sponsor here. IMO it isn't worth paying a premium for a bonded pair, I've always had excellent experience with pairing clowns myself by following the advice in the FAQ at the top of this forum.

There are a lot of options for clowns. A. ocellaris (falce percula) are always a popular choice. One of my favorites are A. chrysopterus or a nice pair of black A. clarkii which is one of the pair I have right now.

Good luck.

Hi,
No they dont actually have to be spawning or mated. I have just heard that LFS will say they are pair, but they only live in the tank at the LFS for a day or two...never really together all of the time.

I just thought it would be more fun to have a pair of them so when i get an anemone (lighting upgrade) they will hang out in their new house.

:)

Almost any two clown fish that get along together will make a pair. The easy thing about clowns is that they all start out as males and if the occasion arrises they change into a female. So if you have two juvenile clowns together eventually one will turn into the female.

I got a mated pair of Maroon Clowns from Dr Mac. When I got them, it was clearly obvious they were mates. But being that you're in Vegas, I'm not too supportive of shipping fish almost coast to coast.

I'd have to side with LargeAngels. Get two healthy clowns of the same species - but one noticeably larger than the other. In time ...I'd say they'll probably pair up. But at least you get to see what you're buying and you save them from being tossed around like a football in overnight shipping.

Look for two that are about 1" in size that are in the same tank and are getting along and are eating well. They should become a pair.
