Where can I find Live Brine Shrimp?

Hi guys,

I'm looking for live brine and/or live bloodworms. Anyone know which stores around have these? I called City Zoo in Elmira and ABC in Syracuse and both told me no.

Thanks!

Well, happy to report that it looks like for now I'm in the clear. The new guy is eating frozen brine. Love to get him on to something healthier, but his mouth is ridiculously small. Brine seem ideal as they tend to keep floating around so he hunts them. I tried small pellets, but he chased them until they sunk to the bottom then he retreated. I think I stuffed him because when I tried to feed him more later he ate only one brine shrimp then spit the rest out. He has a fat little belly right now. :D

I would not hesitate to order from Brine Shrimp Direct. A lot of the breeders I know get their stuff from them. I hear a lot more positive reviews than negative ones.

You can buy brine shrimp cysts pretty cheaply and just hatch them yourself for a treat. They hatch in 24-36 hours. It may not hurt to buy some cysts just in case the guy stops eating frozen. They're helpful to get new additions to the tank eating quickly.

Interesting that you should say that. He wouldn't eat the frozen today, he kept spitting it out. But I witnessed him eat maybe 8 brine shrimp yesterday so it's weird. But now I see him hunting on the rock and in the sand so he may be eating live food and just be full. He might have been starving when he got here so that's why he ate. His little belly looks fat so I'm not too concerned. I'll try some frozen bloodworms, too. Oddly Petsmart didn't have brine cysts! I have read a couple of good reviews for BSD, so I might order from them if need be. Thanks!

What are you trying to feed? With this thread and your trying to remove a six line wasse I'll guess it's a manderin. If so they're nearly impossible to feed. You'll need a lot of live rock and a refugium.

No, it's a tiny 2 cm boxfish. I just don't want stressful fish in there with him once I put him in the display. :)

I have trained a mandarin before, though. It took a fair bit of time in QT getting him from live brine to frozen brine and ultimately to frozen mysis. I don't currently have a mandarin, though, and have no plans for one right now. But, it's not impossible. Of course, always have a backup plan. ;)

pet world in the shopping town mall has them . they carry it all the time so just call them first and see if they have some left this week.

I recently placed an order from livebrineshrimp.com (marine feeder shrimp) and despite the mixed reviews, I had a very pleasant transaction and my anglerfish was very happy.
