Where can I get a mantis shrimp locally?

I am setting up a 10 gallon species only mantis shrimp tank with the help of my dad, although I am not ready to buy the mantis shrimp yet. Do any stores around here ever have mantis shrimp, or are there any that get them on live rock? I saw the one at capital but it looks pretty unhealthy and is way too big for my 10g. If none have them in stock, which store would be the best to special order from?

Just wait, every once in a while members post their free mantis shrimp that came on their live rock that you can pick up locally from.

atlantis in fremont, soon to move to dali city IIRC, has some pretty cool ones in stock more than other places. i suggest you get what you want and not to just settle for any ole' mantis!~) keeps the interest level higher there for more love for the shrimp!~)

* Fluorescing mantis shrimp discovered! (Nov 2003)

In May of 2002 a research team led by Charlie Mazel discovered and videotaped fluorescence in a mantis shrimp in the Bahamas. The discovery led to collaborative research into the contribution of the fluorescence to the color pattern of the animal, and a paper on that subject has just been published on-line by the journal Science. Hi, glad to be here. I've been doing research on mantis shrimp over the last week, and figured they would be a good pet for a newbie like me. Easy to keep alive, colorful, intelligent, and vicious killers too! I'll just worry about getting some rock to put in my tank for now, and maybe next weekend I'll call Atlantis and ask if they have any cool ones in stock. It's a way to drive for me but I think it would be worth it for a really cool mantis.

ask for joleen or ming they run things there, great people to deal with!~)
you should also ask john from yourreef he is local (mentioned above) and should be able to get you what you are looking for while you take your time setting the tank up and all. john is a great guy to deal with!~)
