I would go for about 10 bags if they are priced right.
Thanks,

If you can get them to order it, I'm in for 10 and I have a truck.

If people are serious about a large order, I can go to HD and push the issue with them to get 30-50 bags. I only need 2-5 myself. Last time it took a great deal of effort and a very determined CSR to find some in Michigan. I do not have a truck to haul it though.

Joe,
That looks like around 40 bags to me... Any chance of you calling that HD that hooked you up before and asking about an order to help out their local reef club? I am setting up a 150g display in the next few weeks/month. Was hoping to have some of this stuff for that. If we do find it I can show up and help someone load it or unload it but I don't think I can fit it all into our Minivan :-)

Please let us know if there are any developements.

Sorry, I've been a bit busy and haven't updated. I stopped in last week, and finally found a guy that is looking into it and will get back to me. I asked for upwards of 50 bags.

Latest update. The CSR I am dealing with is out for another week, so I won't get any more info until then.

Thanks for keeping us up to date. I am less than a month away from adding water to my new setup if everything goes right. I am going to need 5-6 bags by then.

If there is anything I can do just PM and I will help. I don't know if it would help to have others call and show their interest to the CSR or if you think it will happen and we just need to have patience with them.

I wish it was lowes that carries it. My sister works for them and I would surely be able to get a discount..

joe, i can check with a contractor salesman we deal with alot. might have a little better chance of getting some movement on this. if interested pm me the stock #. thanks, dennis

kevin, i think i can squeeze a pallet into your mini-van:)

Hey if you find a pallet of the stuff I would be willing to try :D ... I'm getting closer to adding water and not looking forward to buying a bunch of CaribSea.

so can i ask how one might go about switching their substrate? if you guys get it to come through im interested..cause im using the playsand kevin gave me with 1 scoop of REAL live sand from cheelo.

btw, how can i tell if its ALIVE or not? i see a to n of little "bubbles" or tunnels in it

Thats a good thing. The bubbles are gases being released through the denitrifing activeity. The little tunnels are probably worms or other sand burrowing creatures. It sounds like your sand bed is becoming alive, why would you want to disturb it and sart over? If it's the idea of a buffering sand bed put the southdown in a refguim piped into your display tank.
I would not be so willing to just swap sand beds, if you are upgrading to a larger tank or changing tanks thats one thing but to disturb a new established live bed in my opion would not be worth the effort of sarting over. JMHO

Oh hows the micros growing for you?

Only reason I've seen to bother looking for aragonite is the color. Most people who have studied deep sand beds will say ESV or caribsea is too coarse for a optimal DSB setup. Dr.Ron claims a very fine silt/mud will support the most life. Regardless of composition.

ohhh oh ok that makes sense. I only wanted the SD for the buffering anyways, i didnt know if i was going to run into trouble later on with the playsand...i didnt know the bubbles were a good thing, theyve been in there for AWHILE now that i think about it

the macroalgae is growing insaine! i actually planted the val stuff, provides a good hiding place for my clown.

the chaeto is in the tank at the moment, i think its almost doubled in size..im going to take an old aquaclear300 and make it an HOB fuge (thanks for the idea kevin!) so i can get it out of there..just been so busy with school/work/band

i do occasionally see some worms that came from the algae in the sand bed, but i havent seen a single starfish since the night i put the algae in. me and nikki found 5 of them..it was pretty exciting..thanks again.

watch for little arms sticking up out of your rock work, look close and you will find them. Count them and mark thier location and soon you will see there are now six, then eight and then twelve, till they are too many to count.

woa cool! ...do i gotta worry about feeding them? ive been feeding an alternate diet to the clown..omega flakes and mysis shrimp every other day

Just my luck, the guy I was dealing with has been promoted/transferred and I have been having a hard time finding him--3 people have given me 3 different stores. His name is Ben Archer, originally at the Brooklyn store, 216-297-1303. The material is called "tropical play sand". The sku's do not work as this was a seasonal item.
