Hey guys, I feel kind of embarrassed! I am looking to start my first reef tank, and I wanted to get percula clowns, I think they are soo much prettier! Well then I start looking up info on percula clownfish and I spot a picasso percula! I don't know about you all but I LOVE how different they are :) But they are really expensive! I have talked to 2 people who tank raise them and I am super pumped to get tank raised picassos, and when I tried to post information on what I found on here, they deleted the info? I actually got 2 rude pm's about it too, not a very good impression of reef central for someone who has only been on here for 3 or 4 days. No one will tell me where to post it though when I pmed them back? I thought that this info would help others out and now I feel like I have done something wrong... can anyone tell me where I can post information about these 2 places where you can get these picassos without upsetting anyone? I can't post it in the classified section because I am not selling them, right? You think your giving others good information and you get slapped on the hand... :( I guess if anyone else gets upset I will just keep it to myself

Re: Where can I post?

Sounds about right. Welcome to ReefCentral, eh.

Natalie I apologize for the people on here who have problems with their power. Some would say she should know the rules on posting. Others might say well she's new and didn't know anything about posting. I say its a crying shame that new people get on here and cant even get any help from the mods and I am about fed up with it. I dont know what happened to the days where people actually helped each other and were people didnt mind humbling themselves to show someone else less experienced person the ropes on things. I for one am tired of the mods going through deleting and editing post without out atleast explaining to the person better what happened. I have seen it posted about you have to be a member so many days and have so many posts before you can sale things but thats about it. I dont really even see the problem with it because it might help a RC member because it might be something they really need to buy. They will never know though because you havent met the requirements to post on that topic. All Im saying people need to be nicer and be reminded that your in position to help someone more than others and sometimes you need to lay your ego and power aside and do just that. I of all people know exactly what this is like and I remind myself constantly of it.

I have not been a fan of setting up our own site/forum as others are, but... with all the recent issues like this... I am coming around. At the very least there should be relaxed rules in our club forum here with our own ability to police a little. I do not want spam here, but we can all vouch for you so the mods should back down.

Total Power, Corrupts Totally, I do agree with all the above reasons to move the club site to our own forum policed by our own moderators or to a more relaxed forum that already exist.
This Is something that I would like to see brought up at the next meeting and put to a vote. I think many people have been victims of some very vague interpretations of what IS and what IS not allowed to be spoken about on this forum. Especially when It's someone new to the site who does not have the experiance to know they are even doing something that Is Verboten.....

I will have some free time week after next ;) I'd be more than happy to start working with others to get this going.

SOme of us are already way ahead of you Mike!! :D I agree, and also do not think jsut moving to another public forum is the answer, not even rev's. We can use our own forum for our club discussions.

Andy, What happens If you move or become disassociated with MTRC? I think the offer Is great but to be dependant on one person for our existence seems very risky to me. Correct me If I'm wrong but once you create another site people will come and It may get bigger than what the club site Is meant to accomplish. I agree that this should be decided by all club members at a meeting and brought to a vote. JMO.

Bill,

I did not sya my server, but I do not want it on Rev's either..you also do not know what I have cooking (chuck does) that changes this. I like Rev and all, but we can control it best and have more function.

The Forum can live on our website. And nothing happens if I move. I have servers out in the world at Godaddy and elsewhere. That part is easy, as chuck and others wh are part of the club know :) The hard part is getting people to update our website..not the forums :)

Natalie I think you should start out wish fish that arent so expensive. I believe youve had a FOWLR tank before but when you start messing with a reef with all the different additives and equipment that can go wrong and fail on you when your new to some of this I just wouldnt chance it until I was more familiar with it and had a good established tank. Now you might throw them in there and they does just fine but after I lost a $104 Angel when I started I learned my lesson. lol Heck my most expensive fish in my tank now is only $40 Hmmm now corals on the other hand thats a different story. lol

Not sure what's so hard about getting a new website up.

CMS systems make everything very easy to manage and update, and there are plenty of free ones available. There are also very full featured (more so than the old version of vBulletin RC runs on) open source forums available.

The club could start their own hosting account somewhere (cheap cheap) and it wouldn't matter if anyone moved. You can usually limit registration so the forum wouldn't grow, if you didn't want it to.

It angers me no end to see posts shut down by mods here and only a "READ THE TOS" message put in place. What's wrong with inquiring if someone is interested in buying your setup? No price needs posted if you're only testing the water.

We need our own forum.

Yeah I understand that starting with a picasso is probably not the best idea commonstranger, but its just so tempting! These grade b's are only $50 and they are tank raised from this guy jonathan so I figured I would start out with 1 and see what happens? He will probably be the last fish I buy so I know the tank is cycled and running correctly...

Thanks you all for the kind words, I guess I was kind of venting and getting this all off my chest b/c I was frustrated and a little embarrassed- I can understand why the moderators are here, but the few ppl who think it's fun to pick on others for their mistakes is what frustrated me the most... O well, there's always the few out of the crowd who should do everyone a favor and keep their faces shut lol If you all do your own personal forum, just let me know when and where :)

I'm not the person to judge what server or site would be best as I have no knowledge of what Is best! I do know I'm sick and tired of walking on eggshells every time I post something on here that does not toe their line as to what Is acceptable speak. What Is everyone afraid of what someone Say's about any topic other than foul language or personal attacks, Seems that a lot of the policing Is unnecessary and better guidlines could be used for posting. Any site that does not address these Issues will IMO be no better.

Let's start our own forum on the new MTRC site.

How about all us techies get together and draw up some good plans, we can all pitch in to get something started and finished.

Let's just do it.

Way ahead of ya there Zach..:-) First the club needs to decide to move..so before we go chargin ahead, lets let Chuck do what needs to be done for the betterment of the club...and if it is decided, then we will charge ahead. I already have Joomla, PHPBB, SMF and a few other things in the works for a project of mine that I will disclose in the next few months

Chuck is heading up the new website. It will be mostly up to him and his, so to speak. :)

Rick has mentioned before that a good website with a good, integrated forum is a great way to grow and help the club as he did in Florida. I don't think anyone would argue too much here. ;) He can provide specifics on how and what they did.

While we're doing a new website, why not go ahead and integrate a new forum into it?

Brandon
