Where do you get your bulk salt

So I did this over on another site. I recently upped my water change schedule and like the results. So now Im looking for cheaper ways to get my salt and offset the cost. I typically buy the $47.99 (200 gal on sale) box of RC from doctors. I get enough to cover shipping etc. So now Im looking for other options.

the only better deal than that would be to buy in a bulk sack, and your going to be hard pressed to find anybody that will sell you it in bulk sack quantities. Your best option is to contact an lfs that carries reef crystals and tell them you want a pallet of rc 200g boxes, and ask them what the best price they can do on them. When i was searching the cheapest i could find is an lfs quoted me out at $43 per box... but then you have to pay sales tax which brings it to about $46, so your not saving but a dollar or two. I searched for a distributor to buy in the bulk sack quantities and had no luck finding one, and thats with a tax id number at wholesalers..... Good luck.

Only think cheaper would be to mix you own salt. Do a search for DIY salt mixes.. It is mostly water softener and ice melting grades of salt.. Available at many hardware stores in 50 and 80 lb bags for $8-15 each bag. Some materials like calcium chloride n magnesium chloride are hygroscopic so u must use them or seal them up. GL!
