Where is the best place to buy the Canon XTI?

Anyone know? I am also looking for the 100mm macro lens. I think it's time I joined the dslr revolution.:)

:D Go to a local camera shop like Ritz. You will get better service and better warranties.

Can you use a 100mm macro lens for everyday shooting? Let's say I wanted to take pics of my family. Is the macro lens suitable for this?

Ok, it looks like the XSi is the better camera due to the live view function for macros. Damn, this dslr thing is confusing!

I do when I'm too lazy to get my other lenses out... You just have to stand back a bit... But the pictures turn out nice... :)

You will probably want to use a softening filter if use a macro for portraits. They tend to be razor sharp showing every detail. My GF about shot me the first time she saw the results of my using a 100mm for a portrait. :D

Give Adorama or B&H a shot when shopping. Prices are good along with the service in my expierence.

I have my paychecks from my primary job wired directly to B&H. :)

There are a lot of slimy folks in the camera business. If you find a great deal somewhere check the vendor with resellerratings.com first. The old "something seeming too good to be true" thing applies here.

So you are buying one tomorrow :D

Don't go cheap on the tripod either. Look into a manfrotto. You will not regret its ease.

Good luck with you decision. I love my Nikon and I am sure will enjoy your canon.

Sang, I just shoot the D40x and the 105vr nikon glass.

I like the new D60's but the 40x is a great camera to learn on.

Mark, where did you buy the tripod from? What is the model number on your Manfrotto?

Yes on the lens.

The ring is completely optional. I don't fine the 100 so large that it really requires a tripod ring.

Thanks again Beerguy. Well, the deed is done. I just came home with the XSi! I got a smoking deal through Best Buy (on sale+12% off!). I need to order the macro lens tonight. Battery is recharging as we speak!

Could you tell me what the tripod ring is used for? Also, which tripod do you recommend? I'm going to be placing an order tonight and would like to buy the tripod and macro lens at the same time. Thanks.
