Where My Purples At?

In speaking with my LFS yesterday, he told me that he hasn't seen any purple tangs for almost six months. He goes to down to Los Angeles twice a month and stops at several large wholesalers. No purples for months.

I called another LA shop and they said they haven't gotten ANY Red Sea fish for a year!

Are purple tangs and other Red Sea fish seasonal? Has something happened in the region that has stopped shipments of them? I guess I see now why they are so expensive.

Have your local stores had any luck stocking purple tangs?

Red Sea fish are still coming in. I saw a lot of Red Sea fish on the wholesale lists about 6 weeks ago, including purple tangs.

Lol! Just checked one of the LA wholesalers and they just got in asfur angels and purple tangs.

LA being the wholesaler hub I would imaging you see anything under the sun at all times! I mean even here in Wisconsin I've been seeing Purple tang and Desjardini constantly I can't imagine you don't see them in LA! perhaps the drought is scaring them away?

Huh? My guy just got back yesterday - no purple tangs. He is really selective, maybe they weren't in good shape. Oh well.
